Dhara is a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT) with a Master’s Degree in English and a certificate endorsement in working with Gifted/Talented (G/T) students. After nearly two decades teaching in the public school classroom, she realized that students could benefit from the insights of Astrology during their formative years of identity development. While Dhara has worked with all levels of students, she has spent most of her career working with teenage G/T students and is aware of their unique struggles, including perfectionism.
Like anyone on a quest, teens--whose journeys are just beginning--are the heroes of their stories. A hero learns the importance of stepping fully into their own power. It is the time of life when all possibilities are beginning to stir and awaken. It is the time to enhance one’s understanding of oneself.
Teens can sometimes feel vulnerable and alone. They experience chaotic emotions that can be difficult to understand (“Why do I feel this way?” “Why do I do the things I do?” “What drives me to think like this?”). Those emotions can make them feel like it’s hard to be understood by others, such as parents, teachers, and peers. Astrology provides a lens that shines a light of self-understanding during a challenging time of life that is full of exciting potential.
We want teens to grow into strong, self-aware individuals who are in touch with their inner lives, who have a sense of empathy and connection to others, and who know they are worthy of love. Rather than trying to be who others have decided they should be, teens should be encouraged to grow into their unique individuality. That individuality is to be celebrated and embraced, especially as teens navigate the road bumps and challenges of life.
Feelings are not to be wrapped up tightly and hidden away where nobody else can see them; they are to be explored in each individual’s inner quest. We want to help young people know the gifts and obstacles found in their individual energy matrix so they can make good decisions and thrive in the life they create for themselves.
Teenagers are in a unique time of life when they are forming and realizing their identities in order to establish their place in the world around them. We are currently living in an unprecedented time where technology and social media can affect young people’s ability to feel connected to themselves and to the world around them. The difficult circumstances surrounding COVID-19 was also very affecting for some teens.
Dhara’s journey with teens is to assist them in seeing how Astrology can help them understand the many facets of themselves, and in turn, to understand the strong parts of their astrological charts as well as the more challenging ones. Self-aware and self-actualized young people can develop skills and awareness that can encourage their own success as well as help them contribute more beneficially to the world around them as they continue to mature.
Realizing how universal energies act upon us collectively and as individuals can assist young people in understanding their complex inner selves. It is a tool in the toolbox that teens can use as they navigate the challenges of young adulthood to assist them in making conscious choices.
